It depends on whether u can discern what is wrong with the AC system. Is it low on refrigerant, or is the compressor perhaps bad? Have u ever done anything to the system? After 17 years, it is either the compressor or refrigerant.

For a 1991, u might have some problems with getting the freon for the system. l am pretty sure that pre-about 1995, it was still using the old CFS-12, know as ''Freon'' & they're almost impossible to find now because they've in essense been ''banned'' & replaced with the newer R-134 refrigerants. The CFS-12 were shown to deplete the ozone when it leaked into the atmosphere. With the CFC-12, it is not something u will really be able to check, but go to a mechanic & have looked at. You may have a to do conversion to the new refrigerant system, which would mean over $1000.

If ur system is already the new R-134 system, there is a ''quick'' & ''cheap'' check & fix. In places like Target, WalMart & local car shops like Pepboys or Autozone, u can find cans of refrigerant that u plug into the ''LOW'' pressure side & get a reading of the refrigerant level. You can then inject a few ounces in to bring it back up to the normal level. If you're grossly low, then that would indicate a major leak somewhere, so this will only be a temp. fix. If somehow the refrigerant level is good, then u have a compressor problem.

Either way, l would not tackle an A/C issue unless ur knowledgable & ready to do some leak checking. Bring to a nice mechanic in town u trust, & have them do a test.

CFC-12 R-134
