My automatic Lexus has the option of D1, D2 & D3....l have been driving it on D3, does anyone know why l have the other options?

no i'm thinkin of doin automatic lessons aswell never heard of d2 and d3

D1 is when you need extra traction and torque at low speed (snow, etc. and is rarely used.) D2 is for driving down steep hills. Look in your manual. You should use D without a number or the lowest D you have (D4 or D)

D1 means it will only stay in first gear, D2 means it will only go up to second gear,
You use these when travelling up and dow steep hills.

it is for shifing and down shifing basci macanics of a car it doesnt hurt to swict when you a re going really fast down a hill.

Arent you just supposed to drive it on D?

D1 D2 D3 are for downshifting like going down steep mountain grades it think.

You could be damaging the transmission by driving like that.

l am assuming this is the transmission? the different D is are probably all drive gears, just set with different gear ratios or something

Read the book in the glove compartment. It explains it all. l used to have an RX300, and l remember having to look up something similar, l just do not remember the answer at this time.

d3?? makes no sense you will only go up to third gear...how do u drive only to third gear ur wasting gas lol...d1 is first gear, d2 ur car will only drive up to second gear and etc. but ur supposed to drive in d...im guessing u have a five gear tranny??

1st gear second and third. is it tiptronic or automatic manual overdrive??? if its not tiptronic than you are fine. d1 and d2 are just lower gears for driving slower in ice, snow, or traffic. but, if your car is tiptronic than you should be shifting and even though the lexus comes equipt with a saftey feature that shifts for you if you miss to preserve the transmition.. it wouldnt be advised to drive in only one gear while in shift mode. hope this helps.
