The only 4 cylinder Lexus that I've seen made for the United States were the older ones, dating back to 1990-1991, when Lexus was never heard about.
They r made by Toyota, which generally produces fuel efficient cars to begin with. Just find a Lexus with a small V-6.
Here is a tip; You can tell what type of motor the Lexus has by looking at the 3 digit number behind its name. For example, the GS 300 has a 3.0 litre engine (which translates to a V6, while the LS 450 would definetely have a bigger engine (a 4.5 litre, which translates to a V8).

Lexus does have 4 cylinder cars. The 1998 to 2005 Lexus IS has an inline 4 version. Currently the most fuel efficient IS would be the IS 250. And yes there is a hatchback Lexus. It is only offered in 1998 to 2005 models. After that it is all sedans. And. l think it is possible to get a Lexus under $4000.

Lexus has never made a 4 cylinder. The IS300 was an in-line 6.

I've never heard of a Lexus with a 4 cylinder engine in the US. The smallest engine they offer right now is the 2.5 liter V6 in the IS250.

l am sorry, we never made a 4 cylinder Lexus. The '250's' were a 6 cylinders.
Lexus under 4K? maybe, but have it checked out.

Lexus has never made a four cylinder engine in the US, as for the other countries that Lexus is present in, l do not know. The smallest engine lexus has come out with is the 2.5 liter v6, in 1990-91 Es and the current 2006-present IS. Rumors from Lexus say they should be developing a 4 cylinder in the near future

$4000, you're looking at USED market obviously & there is the IS300 Sportcross, which was a hatchback, one generation ago. It wo not go for $4000, unless really high in mileage & in bad condition. Currently, Lexus only has sedans, a three SUVs, & one 2-door.
As for 4-cyliner, LEXUS U.S. never had a 4-cylinder. The smallest car it had was the first generation ES250, which was a six cylinder. l am sure that for $4000, u might be able to get a Lexus that has two blown cylinder heads, so in effect, u do only have four cylinders.
Good luck. they're very good cars by the way.

Lexus is certainly the best--but not if you're looking for a 4 cylinder hatchback. If you look through Toyotas (given that they are just as reliable and are very fuel-efficient) you can probably find somthing that would suit you.

The bottom line is that Lexus NEVER made a 4cylinder engine for the US market. The only thing that ever came close to being a 4cyl lexus is the Toyota Altezza which had the 2.0 4cyl motor in the japanese market (this car is known as the IS in the united states but the US model had a 3.0 Inline-6 motor).
There was also confusion about the 2gen IS250 being a 4cylinder car.. not the case. It is a v6 Period. End of story.
