Is a 1998 lexus gs 400 with 188, 000 miles a good college car for about 6500

tats a lot of miles!

For about $4000 it would be a yes - they are asking too much for that kind of mileage. If they think they deserve that much they need to trade it in and see if they get that much.

l have a '96 Lexus with 150K

No vehicle with 188k in mileage (except a Toyota or Nissan, maybe) is a good buy for any that amount of money. Get yourself a more fuel efficient vehicle with less mileage.

if you have budget for parts and you know how to work on cars, it could work. if you have EXACTLY 6500 to spend on the car, you should look for a newer car. lexus are reliable but things will wear out or break over time and that costs $$$

l would have to say avoid this one for a college car:

-major tune up due at 180k miles - was it done?
-this thing is fast - 150mph & 6.0 sec to 60
-expensive to insure with full coverage for a younger driver
-poor mpg
-expensive to repair on typical students budget
-nicest car among idiot friends & will be stuck driving more

They r very reliable, & overall is an excellent car, but r not ideal for the typical college student. It is fast enough to get in a lot of trouble, & when it does break (lets face it, reliable as they are, there r wear & tear items that will need to be replaced), Lexus charges $100+ an hour. This car is better suited to an older professional that appreciates luxury & refinement & can resist the urge to floor it & bounce it off the red limiter every chance they get.

l would not be overly concerned about the mileage if there is proof that maintenance was done. And the price is fair, if not a little below blue book.
