My car, a 1991 Lexus LS400, can start but is having severe power issues.l can be at 3000 rpms and only be going 30 mph which is VERY wrong.l thought maybe it had overheated so put water in it and it still is having issues.Also, when l turn on the AC it smells REALLY BAD.Does anyone know what might be wrong with it? and its having trouble switching gears

if the car is automatic check your transmition fluid... with the bad smell from the AC it probably needs re-gasing

Sounds like transmission problems for the first part. The A/C smell sounds like something l had. Took my LS in and the cleaned the air mix box.

Get a engine compression test, and if compression test result is OK, likely that you have problem with transmission.

Your car has Cabin filter to filter the outside air. if you do not change it every 60K miles or so, your car smalls like crap every time you turn on the AC.

ok l have a long list had same problem with my sc400 u need new plugs wires cap rotor coils mass airflow (mabey) coolant change and possibly new altornater looking at 2000-4000 bucks depending where u go if u get used parts n do it your lef like l did 1000-1500
