Ok so im looking to get either a 1999-200* Lexus GS 300 or GS 400.. The 400 has the v8 and the 300 has the v6... Average MPG for the 300 is 19 city - 24 highway..... and for the 400 is 17 city - 23highway... Do you think its worth getting th v8 and sacrificing that extra couple of miles per gallon? Someone who has driven both models would probably have a more efficient answer but if not someone who can tell me which model and year would be best.. So .... 300 vs 400... which to buy?

l say get the Lexus gs 400. u mite have to pay Little bit m,ore 4 gas but that v8 engine could come in handy.

l had a GS300 and l was averaging 15 city, 20 highway.

My friend is GS400 is eating him alive at 12 city and 17 highway.

Both require premium gas.

It is a great driving car . reliable, attractive, and fun to drive.

Just be prepared to pay out the buttocks for gas.

The GS300 is a fine car. Unless you want to race the 3.0 would do fine. l do not use premium in any of my 3 Lexus autos (LS, GX, GS450h) and do not notice any performance degradation.

the person above me is incorrect-- there is a HUUGE difference between the gs300 & the gs400:
-better brakes
-better tires & wheels
-better suspension
its like an entirely different car..

note: when the person says that he runs the lower grade fuel & doesnt see any difference, this is the vehicle compensating thru the ECM [engine computer]- this vehicle is developed to run on premium fuel & potentially will increase power & fuel economy by doing so. when it says to run high grade fuel, run it.

Alright, l own a gs300, & regularly ride in a gs400.The 300 is a fabulous car & the mileage is much better than what everyone else is saying if u use premium. This car is just so easy to drive & really feels the way a car should feel. The performance is decent, but off the line leaves something to be desired. The 400 is a bit heavier, so if ur in curvy roads it will not handle as good (believe me its still handles great!) The power is unbelievable, & it sounds great! Pretty economical for being a v8. l would drive both & see which one u like best. l dont think u can go too wrong buying any lexus, but definitely do not buy an es!!!!! The mileage is not nearly as good, & ride is luxurious, but not sporty. Its more of a grandpa is car. As to which l would buy l would probably buy the 400 if l had to do it over again, but seeing the gas prices go up every day l might stick with the 300.
