Car is good if cared for.Its a camry all dressed up.

Lexus are made by Toyota and Toyota has a good rep. So the car should be pretty good on overall, especially if Lexus is the more luxury one between the two.

l have a '95 ES300 & it has given me no problems. ANY car that is in good condition & well maintained will give u good service that is consistent with the quality of the particular car. Lexus has one of the highest ratings by Consumer Reports. You do not know how reliable Consumer Reports is?. do a search of Consumer Reports on any search engine u choose.

And yes, Lexus' parent company is Toyota. still does not change the facts.

Well, look at it THIS way. Ya take one of the finest cars on earth, (Toyota) and design and build an upgraded version of it, (Lexus)

The only POSSIBLE way you could go wrong is if you do not maintain it. (you know, oil changes and stuff like that)

l own a 93 es300 & it runs perfectly. the downfall is if anything MAJOR MAJOR happens, it can cost a bit more, tune ups r just some run of the mill thing either, needs to be taken to a toyota dealership or a lexus dealership. They r nice cars, very spacious & l love the heck out of mine. Transmissions work & well seems to last a long time, l got my car from my uncle for 1500 & ith ad 135k on it. now its got around 265k on it. & its running strong, & im not the lightest gas pedal driver either. so consider it to be an extreme ammount of wear & tear. These cars r built to last. For any other advice once u purchase the car come on over to clublexus.com its free to sign up in the forums & there r hundreds of lexus owners, lots of how to's, tips, & questions about ur car can be answered there. Virtually anything u can think of u can find it there.
Mods,tip on ground clearance for air bags, rims, all the goodies.

lol how is the transmission? u sound like u r coming from a Honda or something..
Some things to know about these cars:
Pros:
-rock solid engine & transmission (good for at least 300k miles with care)
-easy to find parts because most swap over from toyota avalon or camry v6
-decent gas mileage (up to 30mpg on highway. trust me)
Cons:
With a 94', no matter the miles u will want to do a tune up. change the spark plugs, sparkplug wires, valve cover gaskets (a must), main seal because it is bound to leak oil, water pump, upper strut mounts,sway bar bushings(optional)
:The power steering pump will leak almost 99% of the time.. replace it asap & odds r u will soon after have to replace the PS rack (~$1000+ at dealership) because if it is not leaking now it will with the new ps pump (more pressure).
:Shocks on these cars start to go bad at around 100k miles so its wise to get new ones.

The verdict: It is pretty much all expected maintanace, there is no failures on these cars that r premature so as long as u keep up with maintanance it should run a long time.

l have a 93 Lexus es300 and the car runs great. l had to get the brakes replace(rotors and pads) which ran about $700. my major problem is that my dashboard lights stopped working. This is a common problem with those models from 92-95. The easy solution is to bang on the dashboard above the instrument cluster, and occasionally the lights will come back on. To replace the cluster is gonna cost another $800, because Lexus does not sell just replacement bulbs. sneaky bastards
