Simple sporty little sedans, Not really a ''Lexus'' Its an Altezza that was rebadged. So it is more focused on the sport rather than the luxury. Not too fast out of the box but properly boosted can make sick amounts of power. http://youtube.com/watch?v=Ycc7fVfXavM

l used to own an '02 IS300 (now have an '05 Infiniti G35 Coupe). As has been said earlier, this car is a rebadged Toyota Altezza that was brought to North America through the Lexus brand instead of through Toyota. The car feels very sporty behind the wheel & is very refined for the type of car that it is (on par with BMW 3-series, Audi A4, MB C-class, etc.). The handling is near-sports car caliber with quick turn-in & relatively large amounts of grip. It takes a lot to upset this car. As for acceleration/power, the IS300 is lacking compared to modern levels of performance. It is acceleration is on par with comparable-model-year 3-series & cars of that class, but by today is standards, it is lacking. A stock Toyota Tundra full-size pickup accelerates faster than a stock IS300. Seeing as 95% of the people that drive on the road never use all the power in their cars, this should not be that big of a problem. For someone that is looking for a 'fast car', they either need to modify the IS300 fairly heavily or look at a different car.

Next to the BMW 3-series, the original IS300 was the most fun car in its class. The tight steering, strong brakes, and strong 215-HP inline six really get the job done. Throw Lexus reliability on top and it was probably the best. that is, until the Infiniti G35 came along in 2003 and stomped it in power, passenger space, and price all at once. One more thing: the old IS drives way better than the watered-down 2006 version.
