Sounds like the Trany is going. Time to get a new car or a new transmission.

time to get a new tranny or new car for that matter. sounds like no one ever cared or maintained your ES, because if they did you would not be posting this.

The transmission is bad. Since the car is 15 years old, it may not make sense to pay for a rebuild or to put a used transmission in. Consider this - you were able to get 15 years of use out of this car. That is more than the majority of people.

The new Lexus ES 350 is an awfully nice car. You may want to test one and see what the dealer can do for a trade in.

ASk yourself a couple of questions before buying a new Car. LEts Say at a Lexus or Toyota Dealer u could get a brand new(not used) Engine & Transmission Installed with brand new sensors fluids & hell even struts & tires for that & it costs 12,000.00 Now u would in essence have a brand new car minus electrical connectors & things like that. Lets say an ES350(VERY VERY VERY nice car) Costs 25,000. You hav to figure out if its worth it to buy a new car or save LOTS of money & fix what u have.

And to answer the question it sounds like the shift solenoid in the transmission is bad either that or ur Reverse clutch has been burned up & there is no friction surface left for it to work.(i just pulled the trans out of my corolla because of this same problem). So in short it needs a transmission rebuild(from a dealer) or a transmission(from a dealer)

Oh & since ur ES is a 1993 it has the 3VZFE Engine in it. That is a SUPER good engine. One of the best engines ever built by Toyota & able to handle tons of abuse due to the fact that it is severely overbuilt(built to handle much more power than it came with). Keep that in mind
