hi im looking into buying a 2002 lexus gs 300 the car has 68000 miles onit first what kind of questions do l ask the dealer and will a carfax report be enough to determine if im buying a bad car also when l have a mechanic check the car out what are the most important things to have him look at any help would be appreacited thanks

Have the front axles, CV joints, suspension parts thoroughly inspected. The GS had some issues with the suspension parts breaking down prematurely.

make sure each panel {door ,fender, trunk all have vin tags. If not it has been replaced. Have them get you a copy of the service history from the local lexus dealer. its nationwide so they can tell if its been done anywhere. check the outer edges of the tires for alignment issues. the car does have a 6yr 70k powertrain warranty. so the major stuff you can have checked.

You can bring the VIN to ur local Lexus dealer & have them look up the service history. l think routine maintenance is going to tell u alot more about the car than trying to crawl under it & look at the drive train. If u r going to ''kick the tires'' so to speak. I'd check under the spare tire cover for water damage, make sure the fluids r level & dont smell burnt & look at the paint. If u see small particles under the the paint, that means body work.. BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!

Same as any other used car. Drive it & make sure u like it & everything works. Do the simple stuff yourself like making sure the interior is clean & mostly free of wear (its 6 years old there will be some) on the seats & carpet. Make sure the tires r good (even wear, good tread left). Have a mechanic (not the dealer) that u trust check the engine, transmission, axles & suspension out for any sign of a problem or if everything looks brand new (could have been abused or wrecked). Carfax is helpful too.

it is a luxury car and lexus is really good so all you need to ask them is when you should bring it in. also, you could leave it at the dealer for about an hour or so and ask them to look at all the basic things and and ask them to fix stuff that is not working.
