I've had two Lexus LS400s, a1991 with 60000 miles, which l traded for a '98 which has 98000 miles. never any trouble with either sound system.
Suggest letting a pro handle the speaker problems, though.

You have to remove the whole panel to remove the 6 x 9's. Start with removing the 3rd brake light. Get in the back seat and pull panel toward you, pull hard feels like you might break it. Very hard to remove for some reason? Remove screws afterwards. Go to a Lexus forum (Club Lexus or Lexus Owners Club) they will give you detailed DY l instructions on how to remove with pictures.
