I am considering buying a Lexus, particually the GX470. But l hear that they are expensive to fix (if it breaks down) and maintain. How expensive could it get?

Japanese car parts cost up to two or three times what American parts cost. Yes they do have a high maintenance and repair problem.All that extra electronic parts in the car fail a lot.

You should call the lexus dealer, or a shop that specializes in this type of vehicle. Find out what the regular maintenance is & how much it would cost, averages. They would know better than anyone else what it would cost to maintain this vehicle correctly.
Since owners maintain their vehicles differently, some people might say it is not that much, while others will say it is very expensive. But l would say, generally, yes. It is an expensive vehicle, all the parts & labor r more expensive than a cheaper vehicle.

Yes GX470 is are VERY expensive for parts. They are THE most expensive in the Lexus line of vehicles for parts. You might want to check out the Rx350 instead. They are much better in fuel, price, and up keep.

Its in the range of a mercedez-benz. Expect nothing less than $5000 for a new transmission..Pretty much double-triple the price of a regular toyota when it comes to repair. Pretty much you parts would be much more expensive. l have an acura and mine are expensive, just not compared to a lexus

they could be expensive because they are quality vehicles... they dont easily break unlike GM and Ford.parts for domestic are cheap because they are made cheap.

Well, they r considered luxury cars & the repair shops will charge accordingly for servicing them - probably at a premium over say a Toyota, which is the parent company of the Lexus.

The good news is that most Lexus models r pretty reliable cars (especially compared with Mercedes Benzes---which have been troublesome in recent years) & chances r u wo not run into a lot of trouble owning one assuming proper maintenance. They are, after all, Toyotas with higher trim levels. But do not expect to be able to own one on the cheap.

Cost to maintain from a Lexus dealer would be quite high. In line with BMW. But this car is really a Toyota 4Runner in lexus clothing. Most parts can be purchased at toyota if u know what part u need except for cosmetic parts that have logos on it, eg floor mats, etc.

Most services can be performed at an independent or Toyota for less than what lexus would charge but u will not get the ammenitites like a free loner car or free car wash, free coffee & doughnuts.

As to cost, all newer cars r expensive to fix at the dealer. The GX470 should not cost much more than a Toyota 4runner to operate & maintain.

No luxury vehicle will be cheap to maintain or fix, period. You must take that into account, just as if you were buying a small aircraft.

You may want to consider the fuel mileage.seriously, l think about 12-14MPG would be tops in that particular car(DON'T trust EPA numbers as those are not real world conditions)

Why anyone would want a GX470 is beyond me. They ride awful, have no power, have a useless 3rd seat, tailgate design sucks, and they are over priced. There are way better vehicles out there, unless your sole motivation is to own a Lexus, which are way overrated anyway!
