Is the starter on the back of the block? Which side? Front?
Any special tricks to replacing it?

go to their web site and ask their technical people. They will email you back with an answer or even call you back free. They did for me anyway. Top service!

Toyota/Lexus V8 is starters are PITA! It is not located in the conventional location. It is actually on the back side of the engine, under the intake manifold, between the 2 banks of cyclinders. Good luck!

This can be a very difficult job. Especially if u do not have a rack to lift the car up. First u have to remove the intake manifold. Unfortunatly the starter bolts r on the back side of the engine. You will need to lift the car, loosen the transmission mount to let the transmission hang down, then take a very long extension with a swivel 14mm socket to remove the starter bolts.

It is not one of my favorite repairs. It is a fairly lenghty repair & u have to take extra care with all the connectors & hoses b/c they can be brittle(they r 14yrs old).

l would highly recommend having this done by a trained technician. It could be expensive, but worth it to save yourself the headache.
