How do you know what the actual cost is for repairs on cars. There should be pricing guidelines that they too need to follow and not charge customers what they want.

l own a repair shop, and the best way to find this out and prevent it is have the job priced out at several repair shops before you actually have it done, this way you get a real good idea of what your being charged, its always a good idea to have this done anyway never just go with what one shop says,i always tell my customers to compare prices before they have me repair it,good luck with it hope this helps.

That is the beauty of the auto repair business, the ignorant get taken advantage of. A fool & his money r soon parted. You must be nice or they will really put the hammer down. What is so cool is that it is still the legal way to get back some of the ill gotten gains minorities & women, especially black women, have gotten from the government. Either directly or through unjust anti- American programs like affirmitive action. Let is here it for the small indepedent business man fighting minorities & the government. Especially the men in auto repair. Hoooray!!!

Well, u r half right. There is a guidebook for what things actually cost, but then the individual repair shop uses that as a basis, meaning they can look at the book to see what the repair should cost, how long it should take to repair it, & what parts r necessary for the repair, then they can mark it up from there. Unfortunately most women do not know this, & r suckers for what the shop tells them. The only way to get around this is to familiarize yourself with what u drive & make friends with a mechanic that u can gauge ur future repairs on.

You're being taken in when a) they offer to replace perfectly working systems. b) u drive off the lot, & then the ''service engine soon'' light comes on c) when u try to open ur car door, u find out none of ur alarm remotes work any more, & they want $12 for each remote to reprogram them
= My favorite is my friend who went in. They charged him for 1.2 hours labor, although the car had been in only .7 hours! They told him ''next time we will put someone slower on the job.''
