what is the function of the ECT POWER button on a Lexus LS 400 90 model,when shold i use it

l had 91 es250. it is basically a extra power button. press it and hit the pedal hard, you will notice the accelaration jump. but it burns more gas, so dont leave it on all the time.

The switch is down near the gear shift. normally leave it in ECT as moving it to the power position causes the gearbox to stay in lower gears longer so you can rev higher in each gear and burn people off at the lights.
It uses too much gas if left in power, 18 to the gallon as it is.

The 90 model is worth keeping as it will soon be very collectable, a good one can only aprecate in value.

ECT button means electronically control Throttle system.basically if ur going downhill it wont shift lots of gears so as a result u do not have to step on the break as much.also when you are going uphill it will keep the gear on 2nd or third(depending on the hill)so transmission wont have to downshift a lot.there you go u learned something today!

For ordinary driving, Lexus recommends that u use the NORMAL position to improve fuel economy. For more powerful acceleration & sporty driving, use the POWER position. In the POWER position, the ''ECT PWR'' light in the instrument cluster is on & the transmission is shifted up at higher vehicle speeds & shifted down more responsivley than in the NORMAL position. ect power if you havent read the manual yet is for more power/torque when accelerating. l know these feature are available on automatic transmission and by activating it the engine produces more power and it does not shift automatically until it reach the maximum rpm per gear giving you more power/torque in that gear. but by activating this your car will be less fuel efficient.
