The GX 470 luxury SUV uses the same platform as the Toyota 4Runner. It has three rows of seats, but the third row is tiny. Power comes from the same smooth 4.7-liter V8 drivetrain found in the previous Lexus LX 470, which also shares many of its luxury appointments. The ride is comfortable & quiet but gets unsettled on uneven pavement. Cornering is less than agile, though ultimately secure. An optional active suspension dramatically reduces lean in corners. Interior fit & finish is impressive. Typical options push the price to the low-$50,000 range. The GX is very competent in off-road conditions.

The GX470 is a truck based sport utility. It had a ladder frame type chassis & a solid rear axle suspension (with height control & auto-leveling). It is equipped with a permanent four-wheel drive system with a selectable low range transfer case. As a result it is not only a comfortable on-road cruiser, but also a capable off-road vehicle. The RX330 (now the RX350 since 2007) is a car-based sport utility. It uses a unit-body type chassis with four wheel independent suspension. It is equipped with front-wheel drive or an available electronically controlled all-wheel drive system that sends most of the power to the front wheels. As a result this vehicle is more suited to on road use with limited off-road use. With the all-wheel drive option it is more than able to cope with typical weather patterns including snow or sleet. The GX470 seats 7 (due to its small removable third row seat) while the RX330 (and RX350) seat only 5. They r both comfortable to drive on the road. The RX330 or RX350 r peppier than the GX470 due to lower weight, but not so much as to avoid buying a GX470. The RX350 is the more capable handler as well due to its more car-like suspension & lower center of gravity. Keep in mind that the fuel economy will be better on an RX330 or RX350 than the GX470. Additionally, the RX comes in RX400h trim which is a hybrid powertrain. This is also available with front-wheel drive or electronically controlled all-wheel drive. The RX350 typically is priced between $40K & $45K while the GX470 is typcially in the low $50K range.

The RX is a great vehicle, period. It is quick, nimble, handles very well (similar to a sports car) but has the SUV capabilities & ride. It is very comforable in the snow & is quiet on the road as well. Base level RX is as well as GX is still come with plenty of goodies that make it fun to drive as well as comfortable & convenient. However, if you're over 6 feet tall & have longer legs, u may not be as comfortable in the RX as u would be in the GX. Also, the GX is more of a family-oriented luxury SUV rather than the RX. Although the third-row is small, for young children it is OK in the GX. I've owned my GX for 4 years & have 113,000 miles on it with zero trouble. l can safely assume that the RX would have done the same without any issues as well, as Lexus does make the most reliable vehicles on the road today. l highly recommend purchasing a certified-used Lexus rather than a new one, mainly because the warranty is better. My GX has the Navigation/Mark Levinson stereo system, which provides better sound than my Lifestyle 48 Bose home theater, & the Navigation is spot-on accurate. Say ''Chinese'' & it will point u to a Chinese restaurant. Say ''Gas,'' ''Italian,'' or ''Dealer'' & it will take u there in comfort, safety & style. The GX definitely rides more like a big car than an SUV & handles like the RX, but has a larger second row that reclines as well. The trick is to go try them out, really. See which one u want, then go from there.

Toyota Land Cruiser or Toyota Rav4..? Tough choice.uh?

Neither one, with the gas prices now these days is ridiculous to drive some like that. As far safety. well bigger, heavier. means, a body in motion stays in motion & Force= Mass X Acceleration. In other words the heavier the bigger the larger the crater :-)

..... so the impact ! (Physics 101)

Seen vehicles like that in Colorado right in the ditch. Forces r equal to all 4 wheel vehicles. From cars to trucks, they all skid too. Before the so called SUV craze, they were few of them & more smaller cars. Of course. u hit a smaller car & u know what will happen. Now, seems the other way around, so is pretty much equal. So a truck against a truck seems to be a much bigger impact.

l have seen a Pontiac Gran Am hit a Ford Explorer. The Pontiac drove away, the Explorer was totaled. l wish l had a camera, was a very interesting site.
