Are you talking about paint cleaning clay? If yes, it wo not affect it so long as you rub gently and keep the car wet with some kind of spray-on wax.

Clay bar just removes the small contaminants that have embedded themselves into the surface of the paint. It is not sand paper nor does it remove paint or clear coat.

Just be warned, after a clay bar, one must high speed buff the car back up as the clay will leave marks (non harming).

Also make sure you use soap or the clay bar spray, never dry.
