The tensioner in my glove compartment door now drops without the smoothness it used to have. Can l fix the broken tensioner myself? What part do l need, and how do l do it? To clarify, the door hatch works well, it is just when l open it, it drops abruptly and not smoothly as usual.

this is why you should buy a Mercedes, not the cheap japanese knockout.

if yours has the little chock on it you can order it from a dealer,,i own a repair shop,,and these are easy to put on,,if its just the upper latch that needs tightened upon it,,it is really simple to do,,all you have to do is look at it,,and see where it was at,,and re-adjust it till it stays back up,,it may take 2 or 3 times to get it right,,but you can do it,,i hope this help,s.

look for the string that used to let the glove box down the whole assembly is held to the dashboard with six or eight sheet metal screws. Sometimes u will need to take the right quarter trim off to get that last screw or 10 mm nut carefull examination u should be able to splice into that string or on some glove boxes there r gear & spring lowering slowers glove box assembly in hand u should see how to fix it. P.S. u do not have to carry 4 colt 45 cal. model M-1911 is in ur glove box all of the time, unless u want to start a war!

Might l say that mercedes has just as many fallouts as lexus does and well...just recently lexus beat mecedes by one gear, 8 speed autmatic. Now to the question, since it is a lexus l would recommend taking it to the nearest lexus dealer to get it fixed, if you have a warrenty then it should be covered but if not it would be worth coughing up the money to get it fixed anyways
