You can but you will gum up your injectors. Your engine was designed for premium for a reason, it is a high performance motor. Do not buy a Lexus if you can not afford the gas.

Yes you can, but the engine is designed for high performance with higher octane gas. Your engine will not perform as well on the lower octane and the long term use could clog up your fuel injection.

yea that is true.i drive an 2004 M3 and usually just use Premium every other time. It wont really clog up your injectors as long as you use Top Tiers gasoline, which are gasoline that has been tested by the carmaker and is satisfactory with them, i.e Shells, Chevron etc etc.

You can but any savings you get at the pump you lose at least 5 times that in maintenance costs.

Injector, intake, throttle body cleanings, new plugs, filters.

Not to mention it will make the car run worse and have less power so your gas mileage will go down.

Here is the way l look at it. the extra $.20 u pay for premium will be about $3.40 extra per fill (depending on ur tank size, l am using 17 gallons).

Now let is look at a total. If u drive let is say the extreme of 20K per year, at 22 mpg let is say, then that is about 909 gallons x $.20 = $181.80 a year.

Most manufacturers put additives & detergent into their premium grades to keep injectors cleaner & run cleaner. Whether u believe this or not, the octane level is higher which will reduce knocking (whether u feel it or not).

You paid how much for ur IS? Maybe $30K. $181/year for a peace of mind. Clogged injectors to fix = $200. Excessive engine wear from piston ping could be in excess of $4000 for a new engine.

It is all just insurance. u hope u never need it, but it is just peace of mind. l have a '99 RX, a '98 Accord, '92 Integra GSR. all have used premium since day one & current fuel prices not affecting my decision.

It may save in your pocket change at the pump but not at the repair shop!!!!

l have a Lexus and love it.why did you buy a nice car that you can not afford to support? Kind of like buying a dog but forgetting about the cost to keep it!!!!
