Replacing shocks on 1991 Lexus LS 400. Anyone know can we, and how to install non Lexus replacement shocks

We are told that factory replacement shocks cost about $1000 installed because they are unique.Somebody has figured out how to install off the shelf less expensive shocks or am l crazy? Putting $1000 in shocks into a car with 150k miles that only cost $3500...does not compute.Thanks for any leads!

To me this is a question of logic. If u can find aftermarket shocks for the Lexus then yes they can be installed. However, ur car may have the electronic adjustable suspension. If u do not want this feature then u could install after market shocks (which will be non-adjustable) as long as they fit. Try this website for parts carpartswholesale.com

Call to verify that the new shocks/struts will fit ur vehicle & bring them to a shop. Tell them that u do not care if they r not adjustable.
