My son is looking at a 1999 Lexus something which is a 6 cylinder.l told him that l do not think that the car runs on regular gas, it must use premium.Am l right? It is a factor in which he did not consider.

yes. my dad owns one. he always uses premium for it.

l think you are correct because l see my father fill up his Lexus up with premium gas. He says you're damage the engine if you pump it with regular gas, but l do not if its true. But if you're driving a Lexus it would be embarrassing to fill it up with regular gas.

Most high end Japanese luxury sedans use high compression engines which require premium fuel. Most Lexuses (Lexii?) I've seen run premium.

Check out fueleconomy.gov for specific vehicle info, including required octane rating.

Not necessarily, check with the dealer who has the car for sale.

The Lexus is made by Toyota, yes by Toyota, and l have a 6 cylinder Solara Convertible Toyota and use regular gas.recommended by the dealer.

l think it is a great car..just check if it is a certified used car..Dealers use that term certified for their best used cars.

1999 Lexus six cylinder is a 3.0 liter Toyota engine. The 3.0 liter engine like most mass production gas engines are designed to run on regular, 89 octane fuel. Premium gas is not needed for this model.

The electronics in the Lexus engine will automatically adjust for the octane level of the fuel. To get the maximum performance possible, premium fuel (generally 91 octane or above is recommended). Using lower octane, rated 87 or 89, will not harm the engine, but will result in slightly lower maximum performance and slightly lower fuel economy, as lower octane gasoline does not burn as efficiently.

l think you are either looking a the Lexus ES300 or GS300

If it is the ES300, it uses the exact same engine as the 1999 Toyota Camry V6. They both have the same specs. 3.0 liter with around 190 hp. That engine will run on 87 octane.

If your looking at the GS300, l believe 91 is recommended however it is not required. I'd ask your local Lexus dealer.

Good Luck!

l believe you need premium, but if you buy 1000 gallons a year and it costs you 20 cents a gallon more, that is only $200 for the whole year

This is a great questions. Today all of Lexus vehicles r rated for premium fuel 91 or higher. But back in 1999 there were three vehicles that were rated for regular fuel. The ES 300, RX 300 & the LX 470 were rated for regular fuel.

Be sure to take a look at ur from trowbridgenyc, John S, & Jay. They all had great insight for this answer. And also check out the site recommended by quick4_6:

http://fueleconomy.gov/feg/bymanu.htm

Do a search to see the fuel information for all 1999 Lexus vehicles.

Lexus is a great vehicle & has been award #1 for reliability in the world 11 years running be J.D. Power & Assoc.

regular is 87, not 89, as someone said. it is probably the same six cylinder engine found in camrys and other toyota v6 vehicles. i'd use regular for it.

Yes, you are right. l have an ES 300 '98 and I've tried using lesser octane gas and sometimes would have a hard time starting the car or the car would shut off while l am driving. Now, l only use premium gasoline. You must use premium if you do not want to wreck your car.

yes but only on certain models if l was him l would look at a new car insted used lexus are high in price with high millage

It is a myth that high end cars require high octane gasoline. l have been driving my 1999 Lexas RX 300 for 6 years and l never used anything higher than 87. Still runs great & never had any problems.
